1)     4 Hour Work Week by Timothy Ferriss

This is a great place to start.  Very useful tips on becoming an entrepreneur and helping you work out what direction you want to take in life and giving you pointers on how to get started.

2)   Tales of a Female Nomad: Living at large in the World by Rita Golden Gelman

Great travel read and not just for females!  Real life example on finding courage to follow your travel plans even if it means going it alone and doing things a little differently.

3)   Exit Normal: How We Escaped With Our family and Changed Our Life

Snapshot of how one family escape the 9-5 by going on a family sabbatical.  Tips and ideas on how you can make this a reality of your own.

4)   unWorking: Exit the Rat Race, Live like a Millionaire, and be Happy Now! by Clark Vandeventer

Easy and informative read offering good advice on how to get started leaving the rat race and avoiding debt.

5)   Changing Gears by Nancy Sathre-Vogul

Can you imagine the adventure you would have travelling from Alaska to Argentina?  What about on a bike?  This family went one step further and travelled with their 10 year old twin boys in tow. Amazing story of physical and mental resilience with some travel adventure thrown in.  Worldschooling at it’s best.

No list would be complete without a mention of this book. Sobering account of the schooling system as it is today and will get you to reevaluate things you may have taken for granted.  John Taylor Gatto reminds us that children learn by simply living and modern schools are nothing more than a factory process churning children out to conform to modern society.  What do your kids really need to learn in School?  Could you do a better job?  This book answers these questions and many more.

7)   World Schooling:  How to Revolutionize your Childs Education through Travel by Ashley Dymock de Tello

This book offers practical advice on how to educate your children through travel.  Although fairly new, it provides some great suggestions on how to structure a world schooling education for someone starting out with World schooling.  Simply put  – traveling teaches children in a way that schools can’t and this book helps you to see how.

8)   Home Grown:  Adventures in Parenting off the Beaten Path, Unschooling and Reconnecting with the Natural World by Ben Hewitt

Ben Hewitt gives a personal account of his son’s unique education in fields and forests surrounding his North American farm.  His boys are ‘unschooled’  – being allowed to study what interests them.  He puts forward the theory when children are given the freedom to follow their own desires  their learning has meaning as it is more relevant to their individual life.  He encourages and mentors them on what they find of interest.
