Spacious grade 2 listed town house in Hebden Bridge, Yorkshire

/ 365

Mark and I run our accountancy business from home or wherever we happen to be. We have home educated our two sons and enjoyed some amazing trips with them. Arthur (22) is now working and living away from home, Alfie (13) attends a part-time 'school' for home educated children. We live in Hebden Bridge in West Yorkshire which has many alternative education options, which visitors can join in with. It is a lively historic town with beautiful surrounding countryside, close to Manchester (where our older daughter, Eleanor, and boyfriend, Jordan, live).

We are looking for a swap during April and May 2020.
Our house was built in about 1790 and is now a largish family home on 5 floors (lots of stairs!). There are 4 proper bedrooms and 3 bathrooms – but room for extra guests. We have original beams & a wood burning stove, views of the beautiful hillside. We have a small cobbled courtyard at the back, quiet & sunny, but not fenced off as our neighbours have access through it, and a separate wild riverside garden. We are on the main road at the front with parking nearby. The house is five minutes walk from an eclectic mix of shops, pubs, great cafes & restaurants. Public transport is good: you don`t need to drive to enjoy the local area.

Hebden Bridge is a thriving, historic old mill town. It has a bohemian feel: very welcoming to all ages and backgrounds. For its small area there is a lot going on including theatre, cinema and music venues. There is plenty for children to do including an alternative school, forest school, arts group and chess club. The town hosts a number of festivals throughout the year including its folk festival in April, famous `handmade parade` in June and arts festival in July. We are near Howarth with easy connections to Manchester (35 mins by train) & Leeds (55 mins).

Old mills and chimneys are still dotted around the landscape, together with the `under and over` houses like ours which typify the area. The old mill worker tracks surrounding the town provide hundreds of different walks – canalside, woodland, moorland, rivers and waterfalls.
