Hello, we are looking for a house and pet sitter for the month of August and most of September (flexible on the end) 2019, for 2 kid-friendly cats and a cockatiel. We live in our hand-built log home in the FLY-IN ONLY bush of Alaska. This means a small aircraft (6 passenger) is used to access our home, just 25 minutes from Anchorage, Alaska’s largest city. Our town is Beluga, with a population of approximately 15 (including our family of 5). Yes, 15. There are some oil companies operating here, however, and in the summer there are some commercial fishermen, and visitors, which increases our population temporarily. There are 18 miles of gravel road, and we are situated right on the coast, with miles of uninhabited wilderness all around. Yes, this means you need to be wildlife aware and prepared. We will be traveling the contiguous US in our travel trailer during this time. It will actually be the first time we have left home during the summer! Alaskan summers are the best time, therefore, for *you* to visit! This will be during the silver salmon run, and wild blueberry peak picking! We have a vehicle for you to use, and we are on-grid, with electricity and running water, and even WiFi. Our remote location does mean that you will have to plan ahead for your groceries, as there are no stores here (one General Store with gas and very basic groceries only), as well as be aware that getting in and out is WEATHER DEPENDENT. A charter service is used to fly here out of Anchorage, and they call the shots for suitable weather conditions, although summers are very rarely prohibitive for flying. Guaranteed to be quiet…well, you can hear the creek next to the house while you take a wood-fired hot tub.
