3 level happy home in quiet Alkmaar North suburb
Large open plan dining, living room, and kitchen area. Front and back gardens – and a trampoline!
All children are very welcome but an important note for families with babies and toddlers: We have steep open stairs, nothing is baby-proofed and there is no baby gear like high-chairs or a crib.
About our area:
7 min walk to a supermarket
5 min walk to train. 45 min direct train to Amsterdam
8 min walk to pool
20 min drive to beach
8 min drive to lake
10 min bike to gorgeous Alkmaar
There are no cafes etc in strolling distance. Bikes are recommended!
On the plus side, Alkmaar City is a short bike ride away, or 30 mins walk if you’re feeling energetic. Alkmaar is a beautiful city that is over 800 years old and offers many places to eat, drink, and play.
The closest train station to our house is Alkmaar Noord, a 5 mins walk. There is a direct line to Amsterdam. Journey time is 45 minutes.
Use the 9292 online journey planner to check travel times and costs as public transport in the Netherlands is expensive.
We do not have a car and use bikes for most things. You are welcome to use our bikes:
– One women’s bike
– One man’s bike (best for tall guys)
– One rear bike seat for a child aged 2 – 6 years
– Two kids bikes, for a 5 yr old (no trainer wheels, sorry) and a 7 yr old
If these don’t suit you, we can recommend a local bike hire shop that offers good rates for longer term rentals (one week or more)
We have a comprehensive house manual that is shared with confirmed guests. This describes the practical things like how the garbage/recycling works, the closest medical clinic, and an online map with the key amenities highlighted

COULD BE BETTER
Please note that this is a well-loved and well-used family home. It’s not a 5* hotel and comes with all the quirks you would expect!
– A mystery lightswitch that has never worked and we have no idea what it does
– A workroom off the kitchen (tools and other household stuff) that is never truly tidy
– One of the 5 gas burners on the stove doesn’t work
– The upstairs toilet has a big crack in the lid of the tank
– Scuffed skirting boards and the walls need painting. That’s life with kids.
– No dishwasher
– Two toilets but only one shower
– All the furniture is second-hand
—————————————-
COULD BE WORSE
– Plenty of places for the kids to play. There are 3 playgrounds within 1 min walk of the house. The street is very quiet if your children like to play out
– All our personal stuff is cleared away so you have lots of room to spread out and relax
– We don’t have a lot of decorative stuff so there’s not much to break!
– A 3 level home offers plenty of opportunities for personal space even when rainy days keep you indoors
– Books & games that you are welcome to enjoy
– A dedicated office space if you work from home
– Fast reliable internet
– Good central heating
– Unlimited hot water
– A great base for exploring North Holland, including Amsterdam
– Live like a local in a typical Dutch suburb
