Far North, New Zealand

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to get away from it all and live off-grid in nature?
Our adobe/wood art house is located in remote forest in the Far North of New Zealand and is available to rent from June through to September (4-months) 2019.
This would suit people who want a nature retreat or would like their children to be immersed in the natural world.

We drink from a pristine stream and eat from our gardens. We cook in the wood oven which heats our water. We also have a gas califont shower and gas oven/stove. There’s a compost toilet, outdoor fire-bath and pizza oven.
We sleep as a family on two double beds situated on the mezzanine floor of one of our rooms. The lounge has another mezzanine floor with a double bed. There’s also a double bed in our caravan which is located in its own zone.
There’s art on the walls, a ton of books to read, silence and birdsong.

We drive through three streams to reach our place which is an hour’s drive from the town of Kaitaia and 40-minutes drive from the stunning beaches of Doubtless Bay.

We don’t have electricity. We use candles and headlamps at night and live without a fridge or freezer. We run a washing machine off our generator and have a solar panel for charging cellphones and laptops.

I thought I’d advertise here before I do so locally as it’s such a unique experience for a nature-loving family.
We’re asking US$100 per week if you’re willing to feed our friendly brown dog and rabbits and trim the lawns. We’ll charge more to get these things managed, if you’d rather.

Alternatively, we’d be interested in a house swap in Bali for this time.

I’ve documented our off-grid journey for a magazine and their website if you’re interested to see more.
