Deschooling retreat in Greece (22-27 March 2017)

/ 2,713

My family is located in the southern part of Greece, in Laconia region of the Peloponnese and we just love this place! Natural beauty, unspoiled beaches and fabulous food (by the way we follow a plant based diet). Since homeschooling/unschooling is considered illegal in Greece, we decided to follow a more nomadic life by taking a year off from schooling to travel around Europe. Now we are back in our base and to tell you the truth we miss like minded families who can appreciate all that this superb location has to offer and that’s why we make every attempt possible to connect. We even organised the first Worldschoolers summit in January 2016 and we had a great time with our visitors. For the moment I am gaining valuable insights into homeschooling/unschooling from our visitors, since we started organising events here at out Porto Grana worldschoolers hub. It is a fascinating experience to talk with so many different but like minded parents and meeting the children. Personally I follow a secular free thinking attitude towards learning through living our life.

Fancy four full days of deschooling activities plus a freelearners film festival ,during spring time with your kids in one of the best locations in Europe? This is a unique opportunity to meet and get to know other like minded parents and children from all over the world and have the chance to explore the hidden treasures of this magnificent place. This is an invitation to all students and free learners , homeschoolers/unschoolers and worldschooling families, to join us for a memorable week which we will spend visiting interesting locations (some of them off the beaten track) like the old frankish castle town of Monemvasia (the Greek Gibraltar), Biking (the bicycle lending club is located next to our hub) and hiking are also our options to discover the unspoiled scenery of southeastern Lakonia in the Peloponnese. Activities will include getting to know the local cuisine and free film , photography and animation workshops.

Accommodation for five nights will be served by a local guest house with apartments that may serve a family of up to 6 people. Each day, dinner will be cooked from locally sourced products and served in our hub. Pick up (and return journey) from Athens or Kalamata international airports will be included, as well as the daily excursions.(tickets for archealogical sites and museums are extra).

Families with own vehicle or method of transportation and RV’s and motorhomes are welcome and a special price applies to them (check the details)

We accept participants who like to contribute to organising this event by offering reduced fee (or for free) depending on the kind of work that they may be able to offer in exchange. (members of Helpx and Workaway are welcome to apply). We prefer offerings regarding cooking and cleaning services plus, facilitation of children activities, yoga instruction and alternative therapies. Please state your offer in your application enquiry.

Come and join our company for an exciting retreat, exchanging ideas and practises about free learning, unschooling and homeschooling while we give our kids the chance to make new friends and learn through the exploration of other cultures and attitudes. This is going to be fun for everybody!
